This Week In Horror
 HARD BOILED
It was announced this week that the fiercely talented director Ben Wheatley is to be handed his first big budget gig by Warner Bros. As Deadline  reported he has been asked to helm the movie adaptation of mega-violent early 90’s Dark Horse comic Hard Boiled. This appears to be on the back of his furious action pic Free Fire that drops next March.
The comic book mini-series, from the minds of Frank Miller and Geof Darrow, features a slaughterous tax collecting cyborg with dual personalities and is revered for its stunningly detailed artwork.
With the source material generally regarded as more stylish than substantial, it will be fascinating to see if Wheatley’s surrealist edge will be blunted by fiscal expectation.
Things will be even more fascinating if Hard Boiled ends up going head to head with Bladerunner 2049Â next year, especially considering the shared backdrop of cyborgs inhabiting a futuristically dystopian Los Angeles.
The Night Manager himself Tom Hiddleston, who worked with Wheatley on the misunderstood High Rise, is also connected to the project.
ALIEN : COVENANT
This week saw the release date for Ridley Scott’s latest instalment of the Alien franchise brought forward to May 19th, 2017, and a new teaser poster released, pictured above.
The official plot for the action, adventure, horror is as follows :
“The crew of the colony ship Covenant discover what they think is an uncharted paradise, but it is actually a dark, dangerous world, whose sole inhabitant is the synthetic David, survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.”
Crucially, the script has undergone a rewrite from the incredible John Logan – the man responsible for the iconic “My name is…..” spiel from Gladiator and scribe of the next James Bond movie.
THE WALKING DEAD
The world’s favourite zombie apocalypse show might well be haemorrhaging viewers quicker than a Donald Trump lingerie video but don’t worry – this is just the slow burn before the raging inferno.
Meanwhile, to show it some love here is a one-stop-shop of the latest essential undead merchandise.
