High on the list of many critics must sees for 2014 is Jason Reitman‘s Labor Day and tonight we have at the film’s UK trailer plus a TV Spots to show us why the film should be on your must see list.

Starring Kate Winslet, Josh Brolin, Gattlin Griffith and Tobey Maguire, Labor Day centres on 13-year-old Henry Wheeler (Griffith / Maguire), who struggles to be the man of his house and care for his reclusive mother Adele (Winslet) while confronting all the pangs of adolescence. On a back-to-school shopping trip, Henry and his mother encounter Frank Chambers (Brolin), a man both intimidating and clearly in need of help, who convinces them to take him into their home and later is revealed to be an escaped convict. The events of this long Labor Day weekend will shape them for the rest of their lives.

Reitman a few years back was seen as one of The Academy favourites when it came to Oscar with Juno and Up In The Air and it’s because of these films why we’re excited Labor Day. The other reason is Reitman’s determination, passion to try something different like this film, a film with a complicated multi-layered story which comes across as melodrama ย which slips into a thriller mode. The trailer and tv spots may not give justice to the film, so really from what the American critics have said about it, to appreciate it is go see the film.

7th February (or 31st January in USA) is the day UK and Irish cinephiles can check out Labor Day.
