Sovereign Film Distribution have unveiled the UK Trailer For Kirill Serebrennikov’s Petrov’s Flu.

The film originally premiered at 2021 Cannes Film Festival as part of the Competition. After a long wait the film from the acclaimed Russian filmmaker is finally getting it’s UK theatrical run.

The film is based on the book from Alexey Salnikov, called The Petrovs In and Around the Flu. The film is described a surreal and fantastic day in the life of a comic book artist and his family. Our artist is taken on a long walk with his friend when he had flu.

Adeadpan, hallucinatory romp through post-Soviet Russia and a film that has a similar message to Radu Jude‘s Bad Luck Banging Or Loony Porn. When it comes to living in a Covid-19 world, this film was made during the darkness of the early days of the pandemic. Serebrennikov was no stranger to lockdowns or isolation as he was under house arrest for two years. You could say the film is also a window into modern day Russian society and is not scared to challenge society’s lingering distrust in government in regards to never ending rule changes.

With the city in the throes of a flu epidemic, the Petrov family struggles through yet another day in a country where the past is never past, the present is a booze-fueled, icy fever dream of violence and tenderness, and where – beneath layers of the ordinary – things turn out to be quite extraordinary.

The film stars Semyon Serzin, Chulpan Khamatova, Yuriy Borisov, Yuliya Peresild, Yuri Kolokolnikov, Timofey Tribuntsev, Ivan Dorn, and Aleksandra Revenko.

Petrov’s Flu will be released in UK and Irish cinemas from 11th February.
