Watch The First Trailer For Ruben Fleischer‘s GANGSTER SQUAD
When Ruben Fleischer’s first full feature Zombieland broke into filmland things looked on the way up and when he finally released a follow up film 30 Minutes Or Less it looked like Zombieland was going to be his 15 minutes of fame however they now could be on the up again. Tonight Warner Bros have released the first trailer for his third full feature and for the director’s sake hopefully third time lucky with GANGSTER SQUAD.
Set in 1940’s and 1950’s the film follows a newly created Los Angeles task force (led by Josh Brolin) to take out mobsters of the time especially one Mickey Cohen played by Sean Penn.I actually love the idea of filmmakers looking outside the box realising films these days don’t have to be about comic book characters, games, toys, remakes and when it comes to periods of history the 20th century was full of criminal characters especially first half of the century and Gangster Squad just looks hell of a lot of fun without overstepping itself as a outright serious film. It’s also good to see all the character have very different persona’s which was one of the reasons Avengers Assemble actually worked what so great about this is the fantastic cast of Ryan Gosling, Patrick Stewart, Emma Stone, Anthony Mackie, Nick Nolte, Bryan Cranston, Michael Pena, Giovanni Ribisi!
With Summer just around the corner what more excitement do you need to look forward to this Autumn/Winter’s line up? Let’s hope the recent release date changes isn’t a sign that this film is plagued with problems just the problem of exactly when it should be released and on November 9th the film will arrive in UK&Ireland.
Los Angeles, 1949. Ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes and–if he has his way–every wire bet placed west of Chicago. And he does it all with the protection of not only his own paid goons, but also the police and the politicians who are under his control. It’s enough to intimidate even the bravest, street-hardened cop…except, perhaps, for the small, secret crew of LAPD outsiders led by Sgt. John O’Mara (Josh Brolin) and Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling), who come together to try to tear Cohen’s world apart. “The Gangster Squad” is a colorful retelling of events surrounding the LAPD’s efforts to take back their nascent city from one of the most dangerous mafia bosses of all time.
