Own your power and watch the official first trailer for Rustin starring Colman Domingo. The story of the ‘forgotten’ Civil Rights leader Bayard Rustin, the architect of the historic 1963 march.

Yesterday marked the 60th anniversary of that March on Washington. Today ahead of it’s world premiere at Toronto Film Festival next month, Netflix unleash the trailer.

Domingo plays the lead role, Rustin was a gay man, meant he was fighting two battles. Those who did not like the colour of his skins and those who hated him because of his sexuality. You will see from the trailer he was a very charismatic man, who was always two steps ahead. You had to be to get nearly 250,000 people to hear Dr Martin Luther King Jr’s ‘I Had A Dream‘ speech. He was also a believer of non-violent protest all thanks to his upbringing as a Quaker.

Colman Domingo is an award winning actor and it’s great to see him finally get a lead role. Could he be adding a Oscar or even a BAFTA to his awards?

The architect of 1963’s momentous March on Washington, Bayard Rustin was one of the greatest activists and organizers the world has ever known. He challenged authority, never apologized for who he was, what he believed, or who he desired. And he did not back down. He made history, and in turn, he was forgotten. Directed by DGA Award and five-time Tony Award winner George C. Wolfe and starring Emmy Award winner Colman Domingo, Rustin shines a long overdue spotlight on the extraordinary man who, alongside giants like the Reverend Martin Luther King Jr., Adam Clayton Powell Jr., and Ella Baker, dared to imagine a different world, and inspired a movement in a march toward freedom. Produced by Academy Award winner Bruce Cohen, Higher Ground’s Tonia Davis and George C. Wolfe.

Rustin will launch on Netflix from 17th November. The film also co-stars Chris Rock, Glynn Turman, Aml Ameen, Gus Halper, CCH Pounder, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Johnny Ramey, Michael Potts, Lilli Kay, Jordan-Amanda Hall, Jakeem Powell, Grantham Coleman, Jamilah Rosemond, Jules Latimer, Maxwell Whittington-Cooper, Frank Harts, Kevin Mambo, Carra Patterson, Bill Irwin, Cotter Smith, Adrienne Warren, with Jeffrey Wright and Audra McDonald.
