Watch Trailer For Bold New Adaptation Of Hamlet Starring Riz Ahmed

‘To be, or not to be’ is the perennial question and perhaps Universal Pictures have the answer as they release the official trailer for Aneil Karia’s Hamlet starring Riz Ahmed in the title role.

The Shakespeare classic is gracing our screens again early next year. Most of his plays have been adapted for the big screen, but few have been given a modern setting. This version of Hamlet takes us to present day London with a wealthy British South-Asian family taking centre stage. When the title character returns home for his father’s funeral, he finds his mother has married his uncle Claudius.  Revenge is on his mind when his father’s ghost reveals he was murdered and the identity of his killer.

This one also stars Morfydd Clark, Joe Alwyn, Sheeba Chadha, Avijit Dutt with Art Malik and Timothy Spall.

Leoni Horton watched the film for The People’s Movies at this year’s BFI London Film Festival. Synopsis | A contemporary adaptation of Shakespeare’s Hamlet set in a wealthy British South-Asian family. Hamlet returns home for his father’s funeral and is shocked to learn that his uncle Claudius will now marry his widowed mother.
