He will be drumming for a metal band in Sound Of Metal, before then he’s dropping beats in Mogul Mowgli. Both films showcasing his musical talents, both characters suffering from with conditions that could threaten their careers.
Today BFI have released the visceral UK Trailer for Mogul Mowgli, as Ahmed plays a British Pakistani rapper on the the cusp of international success. Struck by an illness that could threaten his career forcing him home to his family.
This looks another another fantastic vehicle to highlight the talent the British actor possess. He’s long overdue a big break as a lead actor instead of an support/ character actor he usually plays. The film looks to highlight not just mental health but also the racism, the finding you identity among second generational families face.

British Pakistani rapper Zed (Riz Ahmed) is a rising star on the cusp of his first world tour. But, struck down by an illness that threatens to derail his big break, he’s forced to confront his past, his family, and the uncertainty of his legacy.
The debut fiction feature from the award-winning documentary filmmaker Bassam Tariq (These Birds Walk) and co-written, produced by and starring the Emmy award-winning Ahmed, Mogul Mowgli is a bold, vital and electrifying exploration of heritage and identity.
The film also stars Aiysha Hart and Alyy Khan.
Mogul Mowgli will be released by the BFI in UK and Irish cinemas from 30th October. The film will also make it’s UK Premiere earlier in the month on 10th October at BFI London Film Festival [More Info here].
