After tidal waves, earthquakes what else could we go? Oil rigs! With the cost of living and fuel costs making our lives even harder, what if there was a disaster of an apocalyptic nature? This might be the closest we’ll get to one.
50 plus years after the discovery of Norway’s biggest oil fields in North Sea, the environmental consequences begin to manifest. A team of experts attempt to prevent a catastrophic disaster happening.
If you have seen The Wave and The Quake you’ll know exactly what to expect from this one. It’s one highlighting the dangers of these rigs and damage that impacts our planet.
In 1969, the Norwegian government announces their discovery of one of the world’s largest oil fields in the neighbouring North Sea, launching a prosperous period of offshore drilling.
Fifty years later, the environmental consequences begin to manifest – a crack has opened on the ocean floor, causing a rig to collapse. A team of researchers, including submarine operator Sofia (Kristine Kujath Thorp), rushes in to search for the missing and assess the cause of the damage. But what they discover is that this is just the start of a possible apocalyptic catastrophe. As rigs are evacuated, Sofia’s partner Stian (Henrik Bjelland) becomes trapped in the depths of the sea, leaving Sofia to come to his rescue.
The film stars Kristine Kujath Thorp, Rolf Kristian Larsen, Anders Baasmo, Bjørn Floberg, Anneke von der Lippe, Ane Skumsvoll, Cengiz Al, and Nils Elias Olsen.
The Burning Sea will arrive in the UK and Ireland on Digital platforms from 30th May.
