Watch The Peculiar Trailer for Horror The Devil’s Bath

The Devil's Bath, watch trailer coming to Shudder in June

Shudder have sent us the peculiar trailer for Austrian horror The Devil’s Bath, what horrors lurk in the woods?

The Psychological horror drama is directed by Severin Fiala and Veronika Franz, who directed Goodnight Mummy along with The Lodge. Both those very grim as well as unsettling, the latest film certainly looks to have similar tone. It looks like another dive into depression maybe with a hint of folk horror but more grounded in humanity maybe something like The Babadook.

The Devil’s Bath is set in 18th Century Austria, about a young woman facing a horrible fate due to a crime she is accused of. Whilst preparing for her wedding and when evil appears plunges her into darkness.

In 1750 Austria, a deeply religious woman named Agnes has just married her beloved, but her mind and heart soon grow heavy as her life becomes a long list of chores and expectations. Day after day, she is increasingly trapped in a murky and lonely path leading to evil thoughts, until the possibility of committing a shocking act of violence seems like the only way out of her inner prison. Giving a voice to the invisible and unheard women of the rural past; THE DEVIL’S BATH is based on historical court records about a shocking, hitherto unexplored chapter of European history.

The film stars Anja Plaschg, Maria Hofstätter, and David Scheid. The Devil’s Bath will stream on Shudder later this month on 28th June.
