Watch The First Trailer For Joanna Hogg’s The Souvenir Part II

When it comes to arthouse/independent films rarely do we see sequels being made, Joanna Hogg’s The Souvenir is that rarity. Picturehouse Entertainment will be releasing The Souvenir Part II in the UK, A24 Films in the U.S and they have unveiled the film’s first American Trailer.

I will say right away the original film won’t be a film for everyone, the sequel will be like wise. If you do enjoy Arthouse cinema you would have been treated to a searing, intimate autobiographical drama. The new film will see Honor Swinton Byrne once again return as Julie, a young filmmaker wannabe. The film picks up after her destructive relationship with her drug addict now dead lover (Tom Burke). She uses that pain into her art and a portrait of the artist that transcends the halting particulars of everyday life — a singular, alchemic mix of memoir and fantasy.

The tone seem different from the first film, her endless problems have moved onto demanding actors and egomaniacal rivals…

In the aftermath of her tumultuous relationship with a charismatic and manipulative older man, Julie begins to untangle her fraught love for him in making her graduation film, sorting fact from his elaborately constructed fiction.

The film also stars Jaygann Ayeh, Richard Ayoade, Ariane Labed, James Spencer Ashworth, Harris Dickinson, Charlie Heaton, Joe Alwyn, and Tilda Swinton.

Picturehouse Entertainment will release The Souvenir Part II in the UK and Ireland from 22nd January 2022. The above trailer is the American version and A24 Films will release the film in the U.S from 29th October.
