TENDER BAR

Heard the one about when Batman met Batman? It’s called The Tender Bar directed by George Clooney starring Ben Affleck. Today Amazon have released the film’s official first Trailer as Affleck becomes a father figure to his fatherless nephew.

The film marks Clooney’s eight directorial feature with a film  based on award winning author J.R. Moehringer’s memoir of the same name. Daniel Ranieri and Tye Sheridan both play J.R a young man who has no father figure in his life. Step forward Uncle Charlie a bar man who steps in to become J.R’s colourful ‘father figure’.

Our review editor Scott J.Davis recently watch the film’s UK premiere at BFI London Film Festival, decribing the film as Clooney‘s “most personal and heartfelt film but it’s a striking, stark example of the phenomenal filmmaker that lies beneath his effortless exterior“.

It’s been a while since we’ve talked about a George Clooney film in the positive sense. A long time coming and we’re not only one who have enjoyed this film, could it lead to some serious awards buzz?

The Tender Bar tells the story of J.R. (Sheridan), a fatherless boy growing up in the glow of a bar where the bartender, his Uncle Charlie (Affleck), is the sharpest and most colorful of an assortment of quirky and demonstrative father figures. As the boy’s determined mother (Rabe) struggles to provide her son with opportunities denied to her — and leave the dilapidated home of her outrageous if begrudgingly supportive father (Christopher Lloyd) — J.R. begins to gamely, if not always gracefully, pursue his romantic and professional dreams — with one foot persistently placed in Uncle Charlie’s bar. The Tender Bar is based on the best-selling memoir of the same name by J.R. Moehringer.

The film also stars Christopher Lloyd, Lily Rabe, Max Casella, Sondra James and Max Martini. The Tender Bar will get an limited UK and Irish cinema release from 17th December. Then on 7th January 2022 the film will be released globally on Amazon Prime Video.
