Watch The Atmospheric UK Trailer For Horror A Banquet

A Banquet (Signature Entertainment)

Signature Entertainment have released the UK Trailer for Scottish filmmaker Ruth Paxton‘s unsettling psychological chiller A Banquet. The cruelty of maternal love between three generations of mothers and daughters comes under the microscope.

2020 was certainly a year for women filmmakers in horror. What came from Rose Glass, Natalie Erika James, MaÅ‚gorzata Szumowska was horror, not exactly the jump scare kind. However horror isn’t just about the scares, it’s psychological too, playing to the mind’s anxieties like this one.

This film made a big splash first at last year’s Toronto as well as London and Fantastic Film Festivals. It stars Sienna Guillory as Holly a woman radically tested by her teenage daughter who experiences a profound enlightenment. She insists her body is no longer hers but to a higher power and she refuses to eat loosing no weight in the process.

This looks gorgeously shot whilst being disconcerting, creepy, and plays on parental fears. Where do we sign up?

A Banquet is an unsettling, thought-provoking and hyper-tense psychological thriller from director Ruth Paxton. The film stars Sienna Guillory (Resident Evil franchise, Luther), Jessica Alexander (Get Even), Ruby Stokes (Rocks, Bridgerton) and Lindsay Duncan (Birdman). Widowed mother, Holly (Guillory), is pushed to breaking point when her daughter Betsey (Alexander) develops an extreme eating disorder. She claims she has experienced a profound enlightenment where her body is in service to a higher power. Possessed by Betsey’s illness, her family are faced with an agonising dilemma, torn between love and fear, and Holly is forced to confront the boundaries of her own belief. A Banquet played at Toronto International Film Festival and The London Film Festival in 2021.

The film also stars Jessica Alexander, Ruby Stokes, Lindsay Duncan, and Kaine Zajaz.

A Banquet will be released in UK and Irish cinemas as well as Digital on the same day of 11th March.
