Watch The Amazing Animated Short Film BLACK, Nuclear War Seen From Space

We read stories, seen films as people see their homes destroyed by war, so how about a story of one from space? Check out this amazing animated short called Black (czerń) from Polish director Tomasz Popakul. The film is the tale of two Japanese astronauts who find themselves trapped in a space station orbiting Earth. As they look down mushroom clouds sprout up everywhere as Nuclear war enrages the planet.

The psychological impact of war is indescribable, but the impact of Nuclear war and a doomed future is a total nightmare. How will they survive? The Nuclear bombs of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were devastating, bombs of today are an extinction level. No one really knows, hopefully, no one will ever find out. With the likes of Donald Trump in power in the U.S, the fear of one going off is universally terrifying.

The film is only 14 minutes long if you enjoy that Twilight Zone nightmarish storylines you’ll dig this. We do love Popakul’s black and white style animation. A little inspired by manga/anime which is no surprise as the Polish director has been Animation Artist in Residence in Tokyo since 2014.

Here’s the synopsis…
Black (é»’) tells a story about a pair of astronauts trapped on an orbital space station because of a nuclear war that erupted unexpectedly on Earth. They lost contact with Earth and all attempts to communicate with their base or anybody else have failed. All they can do now is watch nuclear explosions taking place on the surface of the Earth and try to survive together somehow…
