Watch Tense UK Trailer For Psychological Thriller Islands

BFI have released the tense UK trailer for psychological thriller Islands, which you can watch below.

The film marks the English language debut for acclaimed German filmmaker Jan-Ole Gerster (Lara, A Coffee in Berlin (aka Oh Boy) and makes its UK premiere at this month’s Ahead Edinburgh Film Festival. The film stars Sam Riley, Stacy Martin, Jack Farthing, and Dylan Torrell.

If you like your thriller with a big slice of Patricia Highsmith or even the master of suspense Alfred Hitchcock, you might want to check this one out. Islands is all about a washed-up tennis coach working at a hotel resort, who becomes entangled with an enigmatic couple.

Official Synopsis:
The film follows Tom (Sam Riley), a former professional tennis player who now works as a coach at an all-inclusive hotel in Fuerteventura, in the Canary Islands. What initially seemed like a dream of endless summers has long since turned into a monotonous routine. Tourists come and go in a constant stream, while Tom fills the emptiness with fleeting affairs and alcohol. When the mysterious Anne (Stacy Martin) arrives at the hotel with her husband Dave (Jack Farthing) and their young son, the family doesn’t fit the typical image of tourists. Tom soon grows close to them — but when Dave vanishes without a trace and Anne’s behaviour becomes increasingly erratic, Tom finds himself entangled in the mystery surrounding Dave’s disappearance.

Featuring a captivating performance by Sam Riley, Islands is a gripping neo-noir set against the stunning, sun-drenched volcanic landscapes of the Canary Islands. The film explores themes of disconnection and self-destruction, creating a tense atmosphere filled with mystery and emotional depth.

Islands will be in UK cinemas on September 12th and on BFI Player on October 27th.
