The Face of an Angel is inspired by the real-life tale of story of Amanda Knox, an American woman who was accused of killing British student, Meredith Kercher, in Italy. Although not a retelling of the story (a few made-for TV movies have already been down that road), the film is heavily based on the book, Angel Face: Sex, Murder And The Inside Story of Amanda Knox by Barbie Latza Nadeau.
The film follows film director Thomas Lang (Daniel Brühl) as he is offered the chance to adapt the book about the trial by American journalist Simone Ford (Kate Beckinsale). Thomas flies to Italy to help with his research, and there he forms a friendship with British student, Melanie (Cara Delevingne).
Directed by Michael Winterbottom (The Trip, The Killer Inside Me) The Face of an Angel is sure to garner a lot of interest, not only for it’s lightly disguised telling of the Amanda Knox trial, but also as it is model Cara Delevingne’s first film role.
The Face of an Angel is released in UK cinemas on 27th March.
