Watch The Funny Heartfelt UK Trailer For The Big Sick

Very few comedies and romcoms especially do we get plenty of big laughs, that could change next month with The Big Sick.Love sees no borders, no colour and in Michael Showalter‘s indie rom-com when a one night stand turns into a proper relationship. A relationship grows the door is opened to a funny exploration of when traditional cultures clash. Studiocanal has today sent us the movies first UK trailer and might be that jovial escape from the already disappointing Summer Blockbuster season….

Based on the real-life courtship between Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon, THE BIG SICK tells the story of Pakistan-born aspiring comedian Kumail (Nanjiani), who connects with grad student Emily (Zoe Kazan) after one of his standup sets. However, what they thought would be just a one-night stand blossoms into the real thing, which complicates the life that is expected of Kumail by his traditional Muslim parents. When Emily is beset with a mystery illness, it forces Kumail to navigate the medical crisis with her parents, Beth and Terry (Holly Hunter and Ray Romano) who he’s never met, while dealing with the emotional tug-of-war between his family and his heart.

Love is never easy. A few years ago I was in a relationship with a woman from China for a few years and it wasn’t easy and we did clash. Not in a nasty or malicious way just misunderstanding of both our cultures and this movie reminds me a lot of my time. This movie was a big hit at this year’s Sundance Film Festival (we will have a review from it’s London Sundance premiere) inspired by a real life story. A story from the movie’s male lead Najiani had with his co-writer and wife Gordon, giving the whole movie a hilarious and heartfelt tone. The trailer is playing in front of Wonder Woman and got a fantastic response, next to the critical praise so far, we might have a nice movie to check out.

The Big Sick is set for a 28th July 2017 UK&Irish release.
