Alternative realities can be exciting stuff when handled correctly, endless possibilities will do wonders to the imagination. The Man In The High Castle is one of those shows that plays to alternate realities and this December we will head back to that ‘What if’. What if The Nazi’s won the Second World War and in the new season 2 trailer things are starting to get a little more political…

The critically acclaimed Season One saw an alternate, post-World War II world in turmoil, where the allied forces have lost power to the Nazis, and the United States, as well as much of the world, being split between Japan and Germany; the major hegemonic states. Juliana Crain (Alexa Davalos) became entangled with the resistance after her half-sister Trudy was murdered after giving her an intriguing film reel, entitled ‘The Grasshopper Lies Heavy’.

In the upcoming season, the weight of war weighs heavy with the delicate peace treaty between Germany and Japan hanging in the balance, as Japan puts plans in place to construct an atomic bomb. With Joe Blake (Luke Kleintank), Frank Frink (Rupert Evans), Juliana Crain and John Smith (Rufus Sewell) each setting out on individual missions to prevent the mass destruction, a butterfly effect is triggered whereby just one small action has the potential for wide-scale impact. But will they be able to succeed? And just who is The Man in The High Castle?

New to the series is Nicole Becker (played by Bella Heathcote) who is joined by returning characters including Tagomi (Hiroyuki Tagawa), Inspector Kido (Joel De La Fuente) and Ed McCarthy (DJ Qualls).

The Man in the High Castle is based on Philip K. Dick’s Hugo Award-winning 1962 alternative history book and questions what would happen if the Allied Powers had lost World War II.

It was a topsy-turvy first season which highlighted the shows ambition but thanks to badly underwritten characters and subplots that felt confusing. Amazon Prime at the moment is nowhere near the level of it’s Streaming rivals Netflix range and success, so it’s vital Season 2 will play to its full strengths.

The Man In The High Castle Season 2 is set to stream on Amazon Prime UK from 16th December.
