theImitationGame-LFF2014

This Monday 9th March released on DVD, Blu-ray The Imitation Game ,starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Alan Turing the man known as the father of the modern day computer or the man who cracked the Enigma Code that help win World War 2. To celebrate the home release of this Bafta nominated film StudioCanal have sent us this unseen exclusive featurette called “Heroes 1 – Explaining Enigma“. In the clip we see Mark Strong, Tom Briggs (Bletchley Park Education Officer) and Matthew Beard discuss how the Enigma machine worked and the task that Dennyson/Bletchley Park faced.

Based on the real life story of legendary cryptanalyst Alan Turing, The Imitation Game portrays the nail-biting race against time by Turing and his brilliant team of code-breakers, endorsed by Churchill himself, at Britain’s top-secret Government Code & Cypher School at Bletchley Park during the darkest days of World War II. The film spans the key periods of Turing’s life, from his unhappy teenage years at boarding school and the triumph of his secret wartime work on the revolutionary electro-mechanical ‘Bombe’, which was capable of breaking 3,000 Enigma-generated naval codes a day, to the tragedy of his post-war decline following his conviction for a now outdated criminal offence. A complicated and troubled man, whose contributions and genius significantly shortened the war, saving thousands of lives, Turing may have been the eventual victim of an unenlightened British Establishment, but his work and legacy live on…

For an added bonus we have 2 other clips from the film first a clip called ‘Useless Machine‘ which sees an irate Hugh Alexander (Matthew Goode) looses his cool largely thanks to no results more soldiers dying every minute. The second clip ‘interrogation‘ Alan is been quizzed by Police Detective Nock (Rory Kinnear) due to an alledged incident…

The Imitation Game Will Be Available on DVD and Blu-ray from StudioCanal from 9th March 2015.
