Next month Alexander Skarsgård maybe the king of the jungle in Legend Of Tarzan. Later this year he will return to his ‘wild side’ with Michael Peña when he’ll be up to no good in War On Everyone. This afternoon Icon Film Distribution have launched the film’s UK trailer which might give those love The Nice Guys that black comedy buddy cop irrelevance…
If your looking for something that contains shameless drug use, sexy dancing, strong bloody violence, fucking strong language and the music of Glen Campbell…War On Everyone will deliver the fix.
In Albuquerque, New Mexico, Terry Monroe (Skarsgård) and Bob Bolaño (Peña) are two corrupt cops who set out to blackmail and frame every criminal unfortunate enough to cross their path. Things take a sinister turn, however, when they try to intimidate someone who is more dangerous than they are. Or is he?
Known for his distinctively witty sensibility and confrontational humour, McDonagh previously wrote and directed the acclaimed drama Calvary, starring Brendan Gleeson, and offbeat comedy The Guard, also starring Gleeson alongside Don Cheadle, which became a worldwide sleeper hit.
If you enjoyed McDonagh’s previous films this should go down a treat. politically uncorrect, morally dubious basically these cops don’t give a sh*t! The film made it’s premiere at SXSW earlier this year leaving with some strong reviews. Originally this was mean’t to be Michael Peña and Garrett Hedlund, but this looks a far better with Skarsgård. Rarely do we see the True Blood star in a comedic role and this looks like he naturally has the comedy in his blood too. Peña looks equally fantastic, his his first steps into comedy we saw last summer with Ant-Man. He had some truly awesome scene stealing moments and his streak looks like will continue in this dark comedy.
War On Everyone will be released in UK&Ireland on 30th September (USA has no release date confirmed). The film co-stars Tessa Thompson, Theo James, Stephanie Sigman, Caleb Landry Jones, Malcolm Barrett, and Paul Reiser.
