Vanessa Kirby & Yahya Abdul-Mateen II Team For Sci-Fi Film
Apple TV have approved an adaptation of the AWA sci-fi comic series Telepath by writer J. Michael Straczynski and artist Steven Epting. The re-telling will be titled Liminal and will be directed by Fast X creator Louis Leterrier, who works from a script written by Terminator: Dark Fate’s writer Justin Rhodes and starring The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Vanessa Kirby and Candyman’s Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.
The adaptation will tell a story unfolding “in a world where a tenth of the population suddenly gains telepathic powers as a result of electromagnetic disturbance.”
“In the moments after the world comes to grips with this development, newly telepathic Boston police find themselves sent against a wrongly convicted prisoner who becomes a hero and leader of other telepaths trying to escape a world in which their powers will make them targets,” the official premise adds. “Both are heroes of their own story, and the future may depend on whether or not trust can be found between them.”
The first volume of the original Telepath graphic novel series consists of six issues and debuted in 2021.
Leterrier’s additional filmmaking credits include The Transporter, The Incredible Hulk, Clash of the Titans, and Now You See Me. Meanwhile, writer Rhoades has screenwriting credits on 2008’s Contact Killers, which he also directed and 2012’s Grassroots by Stephen Gyllenhaal. Terminator: Dark Fate is his biggest job as of yet, having worked with director Tim Miller on the sixth installment in the sci-fi franchise.
Kirby is known for her role in 2020’s Pieces of a Woman by director Kornél Mundruczó, and Abdul-Mateen II for The Matrix: Resurrections (the fourth film in the series) by Lana Wachowski and Marvel’s Wonder Man.
