Thor: Ragnarok Strikes The UK Box Office With A Lightning Bolt
This news does not surprise us and today Marvel Studios confirm Thor: Ragnarok is hammering cinemas in the UK and Ireland. The god of thunder’s return to the big saw the movie grossing an estimated god-like ยฃ12m during its full 6 day opening – making it the 4th biggest opening weekend (including previews) of 2017, behind Disneyโs own Beauty and the Beast, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol2. and Universalโs Fate of the Furious.
Banking an impressive ยฃ6.8m during the three day weekend itself, the Norse God also takes home the trophy for the biggest non-James Bond October opening weekend of all time in the UK/Ireland.
At the international box office, Thor and Hulk smashed onto the scene and grossed an estimated $107.6m during the opening weekend.
The latest instalment from Marvels cinematic universe electrified press and audiences with its humour, colour, wit and fun, being certified as fresh with a massive 96% on Rotten Tomatoes… Empire gave it a Four Star rating calling it โThe boldest, most outrageously fun film Marvel has yet producedโ. The Times newspaper also gave it fours stars saying โYouโll laugh yourself Norseโ!

Hiring Takia Waititi as the director of this movie was seen by many as a risk but also that Marvel sought a new direction for Thor. After two previous Thor movies which were regarded as more gritty and ‘dour’, it was a move worth taking. Could we see further MCU characters getting a more comedic tone?
