He’s Australia’s most celebrated Outlaw, their own Robin Hood. In a few months The True Story Of The Kelly Gang will be in UK cinemas courtesy of Picturehouse Entertainment. Whilst we wait the UK Trailer, an International version (possibly Australian) of the first Trailer is online and it’s a bloody ‘Ripper’!
Justin Kurzel (Snowtown and MacBeth) directs this totally bonkers film. It made it’s world premiere at Toronto Film Festival leaving with glowing appraisal, and still today.
1917 star George MacKay plays the iconic Ned Kelly (Orlando Schwerdt the young Ned). The story follows Kelly’s younger years leading up to the notorious outlaw’s death. Hated by Authorities loved and worshipped by those who followed him. The film promises to explore the motivations the legend.
It looks tense, visceral, chilling, even a little humour?! Not many infamous outlaws in any country can boast a raw rockstar personality like Ned Kelly?!
Kurzel’s film shatters the mythology of the notorious icon to reveal the essence behind the life of Ned Kelly and in doing so will take audiences on a mesmerizing journey into the ashes of this brutal period in history. Spanning the younger years of Kelly’s life and the events leading up to his death, the film explores the motivations for the demise of this legendary figure. Youth and tragedy collide in the Kelly Gang, and at the beating heart of this tale is the fractured and powerful love story between a mother and a son.
The film will co-star Nicholas Hoult, Essie Davis, Charlie Hunnam, Thomasin McKenzie and Russell Crowe.
The True Story Of The Kelly Gang will explode into UK and Irish cinemas on 28 February 2020.
