The Lion King 2019 First Trailer Is All About The Circle Of Life

Remake reboot in the eyes of some is a dirty word. Next Summer it will be when The Lion King live-action remake arrives in our cinemas.

Today Disney has unveiled the first trailer for Jon Favreau‘s film and will it be ‘Hakuna Matata!’? After the success of his Jungle Book film, there will be hoping their 1994 animated masterpiece will succeed too.

So far so good for Disney when it comes to live action remakes. Not just this one, we have Aladdin and before both Dumbo, it’s exciting times for fans of Disney films.

This trailer is essentially a teaser, playing much like the recent Aladdin Trailer. A sweeping camera across the African Plains onto a sleepy lion cub who wants to be king…Simba. What will bring a shiver to your spine is that iconic music, The Circle Of Life. Reminding us what we’re watching, and wipe away those concerns about making The Lion King live-action remake.

From Disney Live Action, director Jon Favreau’s all-new “The Lion King” journeys to the African savanna where a future king is born. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub’s arrival. Scar, Mufasa’s brother—and former heir to the throne—has plans of his own. The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba’s exile. With help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his.

Lions rule the African savanna in The Lion King, which welcomes Donald Glover as future king Simba, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Simba’s friend-turned-love interest Nala, and James Earl Jones as Simba’s wise and loving father, Mufasa, reprising his iconic performance from Disney’s 1994 animated classic. Chiwetel Ejiofor was called on to portray Simba’s villainous uncle Scar, and Alfre Woodard portrays Simba’s no-nonsense mother, Sarabi. JD McCrary fills the shoes of Young Simba, a confident cub who can’t wait to be king, and Shahadi Wright Joseph brings tough cub Young Nala to life.

Every kingdom comes with a trustworthy advisor or two. John Kani as the wise baboon Rafiki and John Oliver was tapped as hornbill Zazu, Mufasa’s loyal confidant. When Simba goes into exile, he relies on two newfound friends—Seth Rogen lends his comedic chops to naïve warthog Pumbaa, and Billy Eichner joins the cast as know-it-al, meerkat Timon.

The Lion King will be released in the UK and Ireland July 2019.
