Benedict Cumberbatch‘s film diary is a busy one the next couple of years with films with Jane Campion (Power Of The Dog) and Spider-Man: No Way Home. In between those films the British made the biopic The Electric Life Of Louis Wain. Ahead of the film’s world premiere at Telluride, Studiocanal have released the film’s first look clip.
The new promo that first glimpse of Cumberbatch as forgotten British artist Louis Wain in the extraordinary true story of a brilliant but troubled soul, whose fascination with the mysteries of the world is both complicated and deepened when he meets the love of his life Emily (Claire Foy).
Wain was an artist who suffered with great mental illness, you wonder if his large eyed cats would have the same respect?
The extraordinary true story of eccentric British artist Louis Wain (Benedict Cumberbatch), whose playful, sometimes even psychedelic pictures helped to transform the public’s perception of cats forever. Moving from the late 1800s through to the 1930s, we follow the incredible adventures of this inspiring, unsung hero, as he seeks to unlock the “electrical” mysteries of the world and, in so doing, to better understand his own life and the profound love he shared with his wife Emily Richardson (Claire Foy).
The film also includes Andrea Riseborough, Toby Jones, Sharon Rooney, Aimee Lou Wood, Hayley Squires, Stacy Martin, Phoebe Nicholls, Adeel Akhtar, Asim Chaudhry. Along with Richard Ayoade, Julian Barratt, Sophia di Martino. It was recently announced that Taika Waititi, Nick Cave and Olivia Colman will appear in the film, with Colman narrating.
The Electric Life Of Louis Wain will make it’s world premiere today at Telluride Film Festival, then following week at Toronto Film Festival on 11th September. Studiocanal haven’t confirmed an UK or Irish cinema release date apart from it will be out 2022.
