Tenet, Wonder Woman 84 Plus More Get New Release Dates

Tenet (2020)

Christopher Nolan‘s aim to get his upcoming Thriller Tenet out globally on July 17, has ended. Fear not Warner Bros have not delayed the release to 2021 or Christmas, but 31st July.

As we got closer and closer to 17th July release date it was becoming ominous that target probably won’t happen, even 4 weeks before. Toby Emmerich the chair of Warner Bros. Pictures group made this statement …

We’re especially thrilled, in this complex and rapidly changing environment, to be bringing Christopher Nolan’s ‘Tenet,’ a global tentpole of jaw-dropping size, scope and scale, to theaters around the world on July 31. It’s been longer than any of us could’ve imagined since we’ve seen a movie on the big screen, and to acknowledge Chris’ fans as we count down to ‘Tenet’’s opening day, we are also excited to offer his masterpiece ‘Inception’ in theaters for its 10th anniversary on July 17.”

It’s a shame 17th July isn’t happening especially with it’s connections with Inception. A film which some are calling ‘a sequel’ to that film. With Covid-19 still affecting every day life, nothing is for granted even with things slowly re-opening up. So this news is no surprise, nor is the news of the other films release dates been changed. This news will also mean Tenet will be up against Disney’s Mulan or will that be heading to Disney+?

The past 24 hours have been very busy time for Warner Bros as Wonder Woman 84 now has an new release date. The long anticipated Patty Jenkins superhero film is moving from the August release date to 2nd October. The news was announced via the film’s official Twitter account. The tweet shows 4 old school cinema marquees originally showing the old re-scheduled release date photoshoped to show off the new date.

The changes continue when Warner announce The Matrix 4 will no longer be released in May 2021, it will be Spring 2022. This means that dream Keanu Reeves Double bill with John Wick 4 will no longer happen. The May 21st 2021 slot will now be given to Godzilla Vs Kong which was originally mean’t to be released on 20th November 2020.

The changes don’t stop there. The full length animated feature for Tom & Jerry will no longer be released in December 2020, this will move to a 5th March 2021 release date. Robert Zemeckis‘ remake of the classic Roald Dahl book come film The Witches won’t be released on 9th October 2021. It seems Warner Bros has now taken the film off it’s schedule. There’s also an ‘New Line Horror’ set for a 4th June 2021 release date whose release is up in the air. There’s talk that the film is mean’t to be James Wan‘s Malignant.

With these new release dates, nothing is certain, especially when cinemas aren’t opened or even know how they will operated. Filming is set to restart for some films in the coming weeks.
