Studio Ghibli’s The Boy And The Heron Home Entertainment News

Animated Boy looks angry

Elysian Film Group have announced Studio Ghibli’s The Boy And The Heron Set for a September Home Entertainment release on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, DVD and to rent.

UK and Irish fans need not wait much longer, with the film available to own, after having grossed over £5m at the UK box office, and winning a host of awards, including the Academy Award, BAFTA and Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature. The Home Ent release will be the first ever Studio Ghibli title to be released on 4k UHD, with its limited EST and VOD release also marking the first time a Studio Ghibli title has ever been available to own digitally.

The Boy and The Heron became the first Studio Ghibli film to have an IMAX release, a major first for the celebrated animation studio. The critically-acclaimed film was the first new work from Hayao Miyazaki in ten years, following his 2013 feature, The Wind Rises, and was a decade in the making. The film features a musical score from Miyazaki’s long-time collaborator Joe Hisaishi. The theme song for the film “Spinning Globe” was written and performed by global J-pop superstar Kenshi Yonezu.

The English language cast includes the voices of Christian Bale, Dave Bautista, Gemma Chan, Willem Dafoe, Karen Fukuhara, Mark Hamill, Robert Pattinson, and Florence Pugh. Luca Padovan plays Mahito Maki, and Mamoudou Athie, Tony Revolori, and Dan Stevens are featured as the Parakeets. Both OV Japanese and English dubbed versions will be included in the Home Entertainment release.
