Steven Spielberg Was Offered First Harry Potter Movie and make it Animated!!!

Here’s a story that raise a few eyebrows within the Harry Potter fanbase, Director Steven Spielberg  apparently was in talks to direct a certain  little franchise movie called Harry Potter and The Sorceror’s Stone according to  LA Times. The American newspaper reported the story in a article highlighting the hollywood history of Harry Potter and they revealed Warner Bros had just bought the rights of the books from JK Rowling to create the movies, back before the books popularity spread outside UK & Ireland. WB then contacted Dreamworks (Spielbergs company) to get involved as a financial partner and at first they declined but soon as the books became a worldwide success they jumped onboard with the suggesting Spielberg would possibly direct.

“I did think it would be worthwhile for Steven Spielberg to direct,” Warner Bros. president Alan Horn said. “We offered it to him. But one of the notions of Dreamworks’ and Steven’s was, ‘Let’s combine a couple of the books, let’s make it animated,’ and that was because of the [visual effects and] Pixar had demonstrated that animated movies could be extremely successful. Because of the wizardry involved, they were very effects-laden. So I don’t blame them. But I did not want to combine the movies, and I wanted it to be live action.”

You wonder what the thought of the peoples involved in bringing Harry Potter to the big screen, how could they create this series of books and did they ever believe they probably had the bragging right to the biggest and probably most successfull franchise ever?  One of those routes considered was making Harry Potter animated and even though I do like Harry Potter movies I would call myself a pottermaniac  but if the franchise became a animation  it wouldnt have been as popular as the live action version we all love and adore now. Im not saying the animation wouldnt have have perfectly created but the magic and essence to can feel from watching live action version would have not been there, just look at the Lord of The rings franchise which was first a unfinished animation (called the Hobbit) back in 1980’s many people didnt know there was a animation and now look at the legacy it has left for its fans and the’ll be the same for Harry Potter.

What also made the movies magical is watching the characters grow during their teens experiencing the tribulation teens face mixed in with the fantasy world of wizardary and now we see Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson now fully fledged blossomed actors in their own rights too. Another thing about Spielberg he desired to combine all the books into one movie  the box office profit would have been minimal compared to what the movies have made, but what would have benefited if the movies became one animation? Probably the narrative would have been alot more compacted & cleaner something that Order of the Phoenix and Goblet of Fire suffered from been too long apart from that the movies have been as faithfull as possible to the books.

Its ironic that now Steven Spielberg is now creating a animation in the form of Tintin and the secret of the unicorn it makes you wonder has Spielberg desiring to create a animtion  for a long time and that aftr not been able to make Harry & co animated Herge’s Tintin is that movie?! The Year Harry and the Philospher’s stone came out, Spielberg went onto release A.I: Artifical Intelligence with Haley Joel Osmet who was been considered to be Harry Potter and Spielberg passed the baten onto to Chris Colombus who brought the magical world of harry potter to live.
