Spinal Tap II Trailer: The World’s Best Band Are Back 41 Years Later

The first teaser trailer for the long-mooted and much anticipated sequel to This Is Spinal Tap – ย entitled Spinal Tap II: The End Continueshas arrived, which you can watch below!

With the teaser comes news that US Distributor Bleecker Street has taken distribution rights for the film, as well as the original, with the former due to be released later this year, reports Variety.

Almost defining the “mockumentary” that many have tried to imitate, the original film was released in 1984 and has become the very definition of a cult hit, and its influence on film, television and music remains. Directed by Rob Reiner, who also played the documentarian Martin “Marty” DiBergi in the film, reteams with the original cast of Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer, who he co-wrote the original film with.

For the sequel, Paul Shaffer, Fran Drescher, Don Lake, John Michael Higgins, Nina Conti, Griffin Matthews, Kerry Godliman and Chris Addison will star alongside them, as well as cameos from music legends such as Elton John, Paul McCartney, and Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood, with more possibly being kept quiet until release.

Conceived by Guest, McKean, Reiner, and Shearer,ย Spinal Tap II follows Englandโ€™s loudest and most punctual band, as they reunite after a 15-year hiatus for one final concert.

โ€œWe feel privileged for the opportunity to work with Rob Reiner and the brilliant minds behind the originalย This Is Spinal Tap,ย and to be part of a film that has resonated with so many,โ€ said Andrew Karpen, CEO of Bleecker Street, and Kent Sanderson, President of Bleecker Street. โ€œThis Is Spinal Tapย isnโ€™t just a movieโ€”itโ€™s a cultural touchstone that pioneered the mockumentary genre and left an indelible mark on both film and music. Returning to this world throughย Spinal Tap IIย is an extraordinary chance to celebrate its legacy while creating something fresh for both new and devoted audiences.โ€

โ€œSo happy to be working with the folks at Bleecker Street who are passionate about keepingย Tapโ€™s legacy alive and happy to give Marty DiBergi another shot at relevancy,โ€ Reiner added.

The distributor is going to release the original in a newly-restored edition during the summer, with the sequel set for release on September 12th.
