Sony To Combine Next Girl With Dragon Tattoo Books As One Film?

Its nearly 4 years since Sony Pictures released the highly underrated Girl With The Dragon Tattoo David Fincher version. It was always expected to the other 2 books that make up the millennium trilogy The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet’s Nest would follow suit, however these films haven’t moved anywhere close to production. If this report is true it now seems the project is back on again as Sony are on the verge not to make 2 movies but to combine the next Girl With Dragon Tattoo books to be adapted as one film?
The article reported via Hollywood Reporter website appeared in their April edition magazine the final books will become one film in the effort to to bring the now fourth book to the big screen too. Written after the death 0f writer Stieg Larsson in 2004, The Girl In The Spider’s Web and completed by David Lagercrantz a book due to be officially released later this year. Like majority of gossip we here every day  this news states things are still at negotiating  will this new  fourth book  now fully sanctioned give Sony the push to get the following books onto the big screen?
If this is the case it has been common knowledge that if they do go ahead as one or two movies it will be without David Fincher and a lower budget than the reported $90million. It was known Fincher was constantly clashing with the studio on production and marketing of the film, but Fincher himself hasn’t officially counted himself out the game yet. There is no indication if he does not return who will take his place or if Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig will return as Lisbeth Salander & Mikael Blomkvist either.
Steve Zaillian did write a  script for the second book adaptation but that may change as producer Amy Pascal may change that however she is not a supporter of of mashing the 2 books to make one film. One reason to support these two books becoming one films is how connected both stories are. The Girl Who Played With Fire is the book that sets up The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet’s nest which is all about the court case with the previous been seen as a survival story.
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo was always going to be a hard sell an 18 in a time when many films are been released as 12A film including sequels of films that where previously 18/15 ratings. The other problem was this film was remade too soon after it’s original Swedish version,  when the the film and even the books where still too fresh on the minds of the fanbase which as we know is massive. It’s that fanbase that may keep this franchise alive even if it only took $233 million worldwide  which  will give fuel to Sony just to take things slowly.
