Son of Snow White producer claims Rachel Zegler “Clearly Hurt the Film”
Jonah Platt, son of Snow White producer Marc Platt, has slammed lead actress Rachel Zegler for hurting the film with her social media commentary.
Platt used Instagram to defend his father. A Variety story noted that the producer flew to New York City to ask Zegler to remove a โfree Palestineโ comment made on X while promoting Snow White. Another detail made clear was that it seemed Platt acted at Disneyโs behest.
Commenters have described the action as โuncalled forโ and Plattโs father as โcreepy as hell.โ Jonah, host of the Being Jewish podcast, wrote: โYou really want to do this? Yeah, my dad, the producer of an enormous piece of Disney IP with hundreds of millions of dollars on the line, had to leave his family to fly across the country to reprimand his 20-year-old employee for dragging her personal politics into the middle of promoting the movie for which she signed a multi-million dollar contract to get paid and do publicity for.โ
He continued: โThis is called adult responsibility and accountability. And her actions clearly hurt the filmโs box office. Free speech does not mean youโre allowed to say whatever you want in your private employment without repercussions.โ It is worth noting that Jonahโs comments have since been deleted.
The elder Platt, who also produced the resoundingly successful Wicked, responded to questions about Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grandeโs pro-Palestine statements: โSo my way of dealing with it is โ when the moment is right โ to have that conversation, where it can be heard and not in the midst of anger. And I feel good about those conversations Iโve been having.โ
Whilst a variety of Rachel Zeglerโs comments have certainly made headlines, itโs unclear where blame for Snow Whiteโs commercial failure lies. Despite criticism, the actress has been praised for her performance and has stuck to her promotional duties.
