Joker is set in the 1980s and could easily be Phillips love letter to Martin Scorsese’s films from the era, Taxi Driver and King Of Comedy. Ironically DeNiro is in this and we do see him the trailer as the talk show host. His part may be small but pivotal to the story.

This is a character study of a mentally ill individual Arthur Fleck who becomes the iconic villain. A troubled soul on the brink of insanity, someone who is disregarded by society. We see picked on by kids, beat up by adults. Starting as a struggling comedian, slowly transforming into that clown prince of crime.

Thankfully Phoenix is convincingly real, fragile, human not the dreadful unrealistic Leto. Smile And Be Happy!
