Is Colin Farrell returning for The Penguin again?

Well, this would make for interesting on-screen shenanigans…

After his award-winning portrayal as Oz Cobb/The Penguin in the DC Show The Penguin, as well as his turn in Matt Reeves’s The Batman, it seems Colin Farrell will continue to be part of DC’s cinematic plans, but in a completely different guise with word from Deadline that the actor is set to star in Luca Guadagnino’s adaptation of Sgt. Rock.

For fans getting confused, never fear: Sgt. Rock is in a different part of the DC Universe, with The Batman part of the “Elseworlds” strand, rather than the “main” strand set up by DC head honchos James Gunn and Peter Safran and do not overlap with each other.

Farrell would take over the role from James Bond star Daniel Craig, who was set to take on the role and reunite with his Queer director before backing out earlier in the year. It does, however, mark a reunion with Guadagnino with his Challengersย andย Queer writer Justin Kuritzkes.

Created by Robert Kanigher and Joe Kubert, the character first debuted in the 1959 DC issue Our Army at Warย as a WWII soldier who served in the infantry. The character gained steamed in 1977 when he received his own comic book series; it ran until July 1988. Rockโ€™s talent includes shooting down German fighter planes with a single submachine gun and tossing grenades with great accuracy. When heโ€™s without a gun, heโ€™s a great street fighter, and can survive gunshots. Heโ€™s a calm guy with heart, but also has a โ€œcombat antennaโ€ able to detect an incoming enemy siege. There was also a toy series in the 1980s for Sgt. Rock around the timeย G.I. Joeย was soaring in comic books and on TV.
