Sarah Gavron’s Rocks Get Official Poster

2020 is going to be a big year for women in film. From directed films to the casts and stories like Sarah Gavron‘s Rocks.

Films of empowerment, friendship and Coming Of Age stories like this one. The film made it’s world premiere at 2019 London Film Festival leaving with some fantastic reviews.

The film is a coming of age tale of a teenage girl who suddenly finds herself struggling to look after her younger siblings. As she tackles the challenges of adulthood, authorities circle in when they realise she is on her own.

The film follows teenager Rocks (Bukky Bakray) who fears that she and her little brother Emmanuel (D’angelou Osei Kissiedu) will be forced apart if anyone finds out they are living alone. With the help of her friends, she evades the authorities and navigates the most defining days of her life. A film about the joy, resilience and spirit of girlhood.

The film stars Bukky Bakray, Kosar Ali, Shaneigha-Monik Greyson, Ruby Stokes, Tawheda Begum, Anastasia Dymitrow and Afi Okaidja.
