Adam Sandler To Star In Time Out For Director Scott Cooper
Netflix have announced that Adam Sandler will star in Time Out, a remake of the French psychological drama L’Emploi du Temps.
It becomes the latest project for Sandler to appear on Netflix following the likes of Murder Mystery, Happy Gilmore 2, The Meyerowitz Stories and Jay Kelly. It was rumoured at one point that the project would star Christian Bale, but it appears they have now gone in a different direction.
“I first encountered Laurent Cantet’s film in 2001, and it’s lived with me ever since,” Cooper said of the film, which is due to start shooting next month. “I’ve been thinking about revisiting it for years, but now felt like the right moment — we’re living in a time where questions of identity, work, and self-worth have become impossible to ignore.”
The film will be directed by Scott Cooper, who recently directed Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere. The original film was directed by Laurent Cantet and Robin Campillo and followed a man who is fired from his job, but can’t admit it to his wife and family. It then escalates further as he conceals his situation to the point where he creates an investment scheme and asks his friends to contribute.
The film will also include a wider impressive ensemble, which includes the likes of Oscar nominee Willem Dafoe, F. Murray Abraham, Gaby Hoffmann, Steve Zahn and Adam Horovitz.
Sandler is coming off big critical acclaim for this role in Jay Kelly, opposite George Clooney, and directed by Noah Baumbach. He will next be seen in Roommates, in a supporting role opposite his daughter, Sadie, who stars in the film.
