Sam Smith Confirmed To Sing Spectre Theme

Next month Spectre will see James Bond return for a ‘view to a kill’ at a cinema near you and today we learn musician Sam Smith will sing the theme tune. It’s been an iconic integral part of the franchise from Goldfinger to live and let die, but will Sam Smith‘s upcoming  be for ‘Your Eyes Only’ or will ‘Skyfall’?

After yesterday’s offical launch of pre-booking your ticket to see Spectre on 26th October Sony Pictures Entertainment announced Multi-platinum selling artist Sam Smith has co-written the title song which will be called “Writing’s On The Wall,” with fellow Grammy Award winner and regular contributor Jimmy Napes. It is the first James Bond theme song recorded by a British male solo artist since 1965. Smith’s debut album In The Lonely Hour launched at No. 1 in the UK and bowed in at No. 2 in the US, and has since earned five No.1 UK singles, 4 GRAMMY Awards,3Brit Awards, 6 other awards including MOBO Awards, Q and AMA Awards.

Commenting on the announcement, Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, the Spectre producers said, “Sam and Jimmy have written the most inspirational song for Spectre and with Sam’s extraordinary vocal performance, ‘Writing’s On The Wall’ will surely be considered one of the greatest Bond songs of all time.”

Smith said: “This is one of the highlights of my career. I am honoured to finally announce that I will be singing the next Bond theme song. I am so excited to be a part of this iconic British legacy and join an incredible line up of some of my biggest musical inspirations. I hope you all enjoy the song as much as I enjoyed making it.”

Sam Smith‘s ‘Writing On The Wall‘ will be officially released on 25th September but shortly it will be available to download online through the usual outlets. How good the song will we’ll be hearing about sooner than later but if we go by Smith’s recent track record we will be in safe hands, will it be number one?

Spectre arrives in UK&Irish cinemas arriving on 26th Ocotber (6th November USA), Daniel Craig, Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris, Ralph Fiennes, Christoph Waltz, Andrew Scott,Monica Bellucci, David Bautista, Léa Seydoux and Stephanie Sigman.
