Sam Raimi Confirmed To Direct Doctor Strange 2?
Has Spider-Man director Sam Raimi just confirmed he’ll direct Doctor Strange 2?
The first film’s director Scott Derrickson departed in January, who will direct the next one was up in the air. According to Comingsoon.net ,Raimi will be directing Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Whilst promoting his upcoming Quibi anthology horror series, 50 States of Fright,he let the world know his news. Either it was a ‘Freudian Slip’ and he unintentionally announced it, or a deliberate low key announcement.
He was reflecting on a scene during Spider-Man 2 scene with JK Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson and Ted Rami‘s Ted Hoffman. The pair discuss what to call Alfred Molina’s Dr.Octopus in a edition of the Daily Bugle.
“I loved Doctor Strange as a kid, but he was always after Spider-Man and Batman for me, he was probably at number five for me of great comic book characters. He was so original, but when we had that moment in Spider-Man 2 I had no idea that we would ever be making a Doctor Strange movie, so it was really funny to me that coincidentally that line was in the movie. I gotta say I wish we had the foresight to know that I was going to be involved in the project.”
The would be one foresight only Doctor Stephen Strange may have seen. 16 years ago is a long time, but it’s no stranger the Evil Dead director wanted another crack at now MCU.
When Raimi directed the Spider-Man trilogy it was pre-Marvel Cinematic Universe. An separate Marvel Universe from the one the current Peter Parker, Tom Holland has now. Raimi’s Spider-Man was between 2002 and 2007 with Tobey Maguire.
If Sam Raimi does become the director of Doctor Strange 2, it will be his first directorial feature since Oz the Great and Powerful in 2013.
I’ve worked with Sam Raimi. One of the nicest people I’ve known in the film business, and as a director, a true living legend. What a great choice to take over Doctor Strange.
