Rush Hour 4 To Be Distributed By Paramount
It has been officially confirmed this week (via Dark Horizons) that a fourth Rush Hour film is in development and is set to be distributed by Paramount Pictures.
The news comes after a request from U.S. President Donald Trump was made for Jackie Chan, Chris Tucker and director Brett Ratner to reunite for a new entry to the Rush Hour franchise. Paramount is close to signing a deal that will allow them to distribute the film; they will not be involved in financing or marketing it.
New Line Cinema, a division of Warner Bros, released the previous three films but has reportedly allowed this fourth instalment to be licensed elsewhere, with them retaining first-dollar gross before financiers recoup any costs.
This film would mark the first big project for Brett Ratner since he was accused of sexual misconduct by six women in 2017. The original Rush Hour, released in 1998, was his big break in the hollywood, which then led to him directing other huge films such as X-Men: The Last Stand, Hercules and Red Dragon.
The first Rush Hour was a massive success when released in the late 90s, earning $244 million globally and spawning two sequels, which both pulled in $347 million and $258 million, respectively. Chan and Tucker are much older than they were in 2007, when the last film was made, which may cause issues when making this fourth instalment. Tucker also hasn’t fronted a film since the last Rush Hour, only occasionally appearing in supporting roles in films such as Silver Linings Playbook and Air.
