Rashida Jones Solves A Mystery With Robot In Sunny Trailer

Apple TV have debuted the official Trailer for their upcoming darkly comedic series Sunny. Starring Rashida Jones who attempts to solve a mystery with a robot!

The upcoming series comes from A24 and based on the book, The Dark Manual from 2018 written by Colin O’Sullivan. Hailing from showrunner and executive producer Katie Robbins, and directed by Lucy Tcherniak (The End of the F**king World).

In Sunny we follow an American woman Suzie (Jones) who lives in Kyoto, Japan. Her life drastically changes when her husband and son disappear, as part of her grieving she is given a robot from her husbands robotics company. Over time the pair form a bond and embark in solving the mystery of the disappearance.

I adore Japan and I’ve been fortunate to travel to Tokyo twice. This makes me want to explore the country even more and 2025 I will!

Sunny stars Jones as Suzie, an American woman living in Kyoto, Japan, whose life is upended when her husband and son disappear in a mysterious plane crash. As โ€œconsolationโ€ sheโ€™s given Sunny, one of a new class of domestic robots made by her husbandโ€™s electronics company. Though at first Suzie resents Sunnyโ€™s attempts to fill the void in her life, gradually they develop an unexpected friendship, as together they uncover the dark truth of what really happened to Suzieโ€™s family, becoming dangerously enmeshed in a world Suzie never knew existed.

Produced for Apple TV+ by A24, โ€œSunnyโ€ is written and executive produced by Robbins, through her shingle Babka Pictures. Tcherniak executive produces for Poppycock Pictures. A24 and Jones also serve as executive producers. The series is based on the book โ€œDark Manual” by Japan-based award-winning Irish writer Colin Oโ€™Sullivan.

Sunny also stars alongside Hidetoshi Nishijima, Joanna Sotomura, Judy Ongg, YOU, annie the clumsy and Jun Kunimura. The 10 episode series will premiere globally on Apple TV+ on Wednesday, 10th July.
