Principal Photography Starts On The Railway Children Sequel

JENNY AGUTTER resumes her role from the original THE RAILWAY CHILDREN

The classic family film The Railway Children, is set to get it’s long awaited sequel, The Railway Children Return. Today Studiocanal announce today that Principal photography is about to start on Monday 10th May.

They also revealed that The Railway Children star Jenny Agutter will resume her role from the original film, Bobbie Waterbury. She will be joined by BAFTA winning Sheridan Smith, Tom Courtenay with a new generation of Railway Children will star.

The 1970 film is based on a celebrated novel by E. Nesbit, that follows three children, who, after the enforced absence of their father, move with their mother to Yorkshire where they attempt to discover the reason for his disappearance.

Inspired by one of the most beloved British family films of all time, The Railway Children Return is an enchanting adventure for a new generation bringing a contemporary sensibility to a classic story and combining British cast with stunning locations. The film promises to take audiences on an exciting and heart-warming journey, in which a group of children are evacuated to a Yorkshire village during World War 2, where they encounter a young soldier, who like them, is far away from homeโ€ฆ

The film is set to be directed by Morgan Matthews (X+Y) will be shooting in key locations from the original film to include Oakworth Station, Haworth, and The Bronte Parsonage. The iconic Keighley & Worth Valley Railway from the original film will also feature.

The Railway Children is a key title in Studiocanal‘s celebrated Vintage Classics collection which is was recently released on Blu-Ray and DVD.

Studiocanal have said they are planning to release The Railway Children Return in UK and Irish cinemas from 1st April 2022.
