As the governments worldwide (including our own in the UK) try to censor and cover up freedom press, Steven Spielberg‘s The Post tackles one of the infamous cover-ups. Today hot off the press Entertainment One has released the first UK Trailer based on the U.S Government’s the Pentagon Papers. The corruption, cover-up and systematic lies about The Vietnam War.

Politically Stateside Nowadays The Press is the ‘enemy of the American people’ according to Donald Trump. It will be curious to see how well this movie goes down. Here in the UK, we do love a historical feature and one that attacks the establishment. It’s a perfect time for this movie to be released not challenging the right to comment but the right to a free honest press without censoring or government pressure.
With Two powerhouse actors leading the cast and the timing of The Post’s North American release date (22nd December), this one will be pushing for Oscar consideration. Josh Singer who wrote Spotlight is behind this screenplay with John Williams on score duty, this one has every chance of being nominated.
In June 1971 The New York Times, the Washington Post and the nation’s major newspapers took a brave stand for freedom of speech and reported on the Pentagon Papers, the massive cover-up of government secrets that spanned four decades and four US Presidents.
At the time, the Post’s Katherine Graham (Streep) was still finding her footing as the country’s first female newspaper publisher, and Ben Bradlee (Hanks), the paper’s volatile, driven editor, was trying to enhance the stature of the struggling, local paper.
Together, the two formed an unlikely team, as they were forced to come together and make the bold decision to support The New York Times and fight the Nixon Administration’s unprecedented attempt to restrict the first amendment.
The Post also stars also stars Sarah Paulson, Bob Odenkirk, Tracy Letts, Bradley Whitford, Bruce Greenwood, Matthew Rhys and Alison Brie.
The movie will be released in the UK and Ireland from 19th January 2018.
