Playmobil To Get Movie, Director Revealed

Everything was awesome in 2014 when those famous Danish toy bricks Lego got their feature movie now it’s German rival turn  Playmobil which has a film in the works.After the success of Lego it’s no shocking surprise now we have another toy about to become a film coming  and it seems its been in the pipeline since 2014. Now Paramount’s animation wing has confirmed the news and they have a director lined up to lead the film forward.

Veteran Disney animator Lino DiSalvo, the head animator behind Frozen is set to direct the newly titled Playmobil:Robbers, Thieves & Rebels. Originally when talk started about a feature film Rob Persichetti seemed to be in charge but when this new broke his name was nowhere to be seen. Paris based animation company ON Animation Studios will help to create the $75 million funded film, with Wild Bunch and Pathe dealing with the film’s distribution internationally.

Playmobil was started when cabinetmaker Hans Beck created a line of toy planes for German Toy company geobra Brandstätter. When he was asked to devolp the figures for the planes they liked them so much he was asked to create them than planes. In 1974 the first Playmobil figures arrived consisting anything from constructive workers to Native Americans. However it took until 1975 before the toys started to get acceptance and since then they haven’t looked back with nearly 3 billion sets sold. Like Lego they already had a number of straight to DVD releases already released.

DiSalvo has 17 years experience behind him which has seen him also work on Tangled, Bolt and his challenge to deliver a fresh film that’s not seen as a carbon copy of Lego. But a film that represents it’s own signature style but you can’t hope they will have some meta quips that will surely make the films appeal more interesting.

“I’ve learned most of my skills by growing up in the Disney system; I was very fortunate to work on films like ‘Tangled’ and ‘Frozen,’” said DiSalvo. “I am thrilled at the prospect of developing the Playmobil film. As a father and a filmmaker, to create a film about your son’s favorite toy, what else do you want?”

Playmobil: Robbers, Thieves & Rebels is set for an 2018 release.
