January 2017 is fast becomingĀ potentially one of the best starts to a year with A Monster Calls, La La Land, Manchester By The Sea, Live By Night. Now add Pablo Larrain‘s Jackie starring Natalie Portman, a sombre intimate portrayal ofĀ Jacqueline Kennedy the days after her husband was assassinated, John F Kennedy. Today Ā we get a glimpse into that world thanks to the movies UK Trailer which shows the difficult days for the First lady, one with oceans of emotion.
Natalie Portman is no longer that young woman we first met in Luc Besson’s Leon nor the mediocre trilogy of Star Wars movies she appeared in. Black Swan proved she can deliver and Ā now Ā with this movie, she may have to make room on her mantle piece for another Oscar statue.
Jackie is a searing and intimate portrait of one of the most important and tragic moments in American history, seen through the eyes of the iconic First Lady, then Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy (Natalie Portman). Jackie places us in her world during the days immediately following her husbandās assassination. Known for her extraordinary dignity and poise, here we see a psychological portrait of the First Lady as she struggles to maintain her husbandās legacy and the world of āCamelotā that they created and loved so well.
Without sounding morbid, JFK is probably most famous assassination in human history and we sometimes forget the people so close to dead. Many movies have portrayed the assassination and the aftermath and very few focused on his wife Jacqueline. This looks a powerful cogitation on grief, reflection and personal battles and the aesthetic gives me the impression of a Jonathan Glazer Ā movie maybe its because this has a Micah Levi score.
Jackie is set for a 20th January 2017 UK release date and will co-starĀ Billy Crudup, Peter Sarsgaard, Greta Gerwig, John Hurt, Richard E. Grant, and John Carroll Lynch.
