The Crown Season 3 (Olivia Colman)

Be standing as Netflix reveals a first look image of HM Queen Elizabeth now played by Olivia Colman for The Crown Season 3. The above shows the Queen having some ‘afternoon tea’. What has caught her attention?

Claire Foy made her name the past few years as a young Elizabeth in the award-winning The Crown. Now she’s our hacking genius Lisbeth Salander in The Girl In The Spider’s Web.

Colman is no stranger to playing the Queen or royalty on the in film and Television. Playing the same role in Hyde Park On Hudson next to Bill Murray and 2019 as Queen Anne in Yorgos Lanthimos‘ The Favourite.

So why a change of actors to play the Queen? Showrunner Peter Morgan has stated that they plan to recast every two seasons. The show is about to go into a time jump following the Queen’s life between 1964 into the 1970s. He also stated those people in their 30’s have different stresses from someone in their 50’s.

Matt Smith who played Prince Phillip in the first two seasons will be replaced by Tobias Menzies. Ocean 8’s Helena Boham Carter will be Princess Margaret, Ben Daniels as Lord Snowdon, Jason Watkins as former Prime Minister Harold Wilson, Josh O’Connor as Prince Charles and Erin Doherty as Princess Anne.

Season 3 of The Crown has started production this month with Netflix to screen Season 3 sometime in 2018 if not 2019.
