Noah Centineo Eyed For Rambo Origin Story
Noah Centineo is being considered for a Rambo origin story. Helmed by director Jalmari Helander (Sisu), the film will explore the nomadic soldier’s militant transformation throughout the Vietnam War.
The character, one of cinema’s most iconic, has only ever been portrayed by Sylvester Stallone. Throughout his cinematic timeline, Rambo has always been plagued by the torture he endured in Vietnam. A film that explores this in depth could shed intriguing insight into one of the most revered characters in action cinema.
Noah Centineo (The Recruit) is one of the few actors whom Stallone could pass the torch to. As production begins this fall, a definitive casting is all but certain to be near. In need of a distributor, the film could look to Lionsgate, who has handled the two previous Rambo instalments.
Meanwhile, the Warfare actor is currently shooting Street Fighter, a cinematic adaptation of the renowned video game. This isn’t Centineo’s first big-budget film: he played Atom Smasher in Black Adam, and was originally cast as He-Man back in 2021 before he dropped out as the film went through multiple different versions.
Deadline has reported that while Stallone himself is aware of the upcoming Rambo, he is not involved with the project. The Rocky actor is shifting his focus to production, with executive credits linked to a few upcoming films and series.
The Rambo films have been hugely successful over the years, bringing in almost $820 million worldwide over five films. The second, Rambo: First Blood Part II, is still the most successful, with over $300 million worldwide, while its sequel, Rambo III, in 1988, was at the time the most expensive movie ever with a $58-63 million budget, eclipsed in 1991 by Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
