Nicolas Cage Says Christopher Nolan Won’t Work With Him
Other notable filmmakers also stopped offering Cage projects.
Don’t expect to see Nicolas Cage starring in a Christopher Nolan film any time soon. The Oscar-winning actor says The Odyssey writer/director and other high-profile filmmakers stopped offering him projects after turning down previous offers.
In an interview with The New York Times, Cage reveals Christopher Nolan doesnโt call him back after he turned down a role in the director’s 2002 movie Insomnia, noting that many directors โget their feelings hurtโ when that happens.
According to Cage, the same thing happened with Paul Thomas Anderson and Woody Allen.
But one director, Cage tells The New York Times, did end up coming back to him with another role after being turned down:
โDavid O. Russell offered me a movie a million years ago. It was a good movie, and he offered it and I said no, and heโs the only director that I ever said no to who actually came back and offered me another movie.
“Most of them, they get their feelings hurt and donโt call you back. Itโs happened a million times to me. Itโs happened with Christopher Nolan, itโs happened with Woody Allen, itโs happened with Paul Thomas Anderson. They donโt call me back…
Anyway, David did call me, and it showed a lot of class that he would call me back and invite me again, and I didnโt want to say no to him again because I have great respect for his talent. And it was a beautiful experience. I enjoyed working with David. I enjoyed working with Christian [Bale], John Mulaney.โ
The original film David O. Russell offered Cage a role in is unclear. However, the one they ended up working on together is the Russell-helmed John Madden biopicย Madden, which is scheduled to be released on Amazon Prime Video on November 26th.
Meanwhile, Cage’s latest project is Spider-Noir, a live-action adaptation of Marvel’s Spider-Man Noir comics. The series is now available to stream on Prime Video.
