New UK Trailer For Yorgos Lanthimos’ The Favourite Is Absurdly Exciting

When you have a duck racing and pineapple eating Queen on the throne oh and small matter of a war with France, whose film can this be? Off Course, only one filmmaker and that’s Yorgos Lanthimos and today we have a new Second UK Trailer.

From the unforgettable Dogtooth to his rise into English Language features with The Lobster and The Killing Of A Scared Deer, the absurd ride never falters. A unique style that sometimes is tricky to pinpoint, so sometimes best go for the flow and enjoy the ride.

Largely thanks to the fantastic reviews from the festival circuit (including more recently London) the madness looks like it will continue. This period absurdity has been getting those rave reviews thanks to its three central performances from Olivia Colman, Emma Stone, and Rachel Weisz.

I have to admit I’m not a fan of period based films, but there’s something in this one adding this film to my must-see list!

Early 18th century. England is at war with the French. Nevertheless, duck racing and pineapple eating are thriving. A frail Queen Anne (Olivia Colman) occupies the throne and her close friend Lady Sarah (Rachel Weisz) governs the country in her stead while tending to Anne’s ill health and a mercurial temper. When a new servant Abigail (Emma Stone) arrives, her charm endears her to Sarah. Sarah takes Abigail under her wing and Abigail sees a chance at a return to her aristocratic roots. As the politics of war become quite a time consuming for Sarah, Abigail steps into the breach to fill in as the Queen’s companion. Their burgeoning friendship gives her a chance to fulfil her ambitions and she will not let woman, man, politics or rabbit stand in her way.

Also starring Nicholas Hoult, Joe Alwyn, James Smith, and Mark Gatiss.

The Favourite will be released in UK and Irish Cinemas from 1st January 2019.
