Neve Campbell Returns To Franchise In Scream 7 Trailer

Scream 7 adds another legacy character that was presumed dead

The trailer for Scream 7 has been released by Paramount Pictures, with Neve Campbell returning as Sidney Prescott.

Instead of continuing the story of sisters Sam (Melissa Barrera) and Tara Carpenter (Jenna Ortega) from Scream 5 and Scream VI, the new film brings back the franchise’s first protagonist: Sidney Prescott, played once again by Neve Campbell.

The plot centres on Sidney and her daughter, Tatum (Isabel May), as they become the targets of a new Ghostface killer.

The official synopsis reads: ‘When a new Ghostface killer emerges in the quiet town where Sidney Prescott has built a new life, her darkest fears are realised as her daughter becomes the next target. Determined to protect her family, Sidney must face the horrors of her past to put an end to the bloodshed once and for all.’ย

This film is directed by Kevin Williamson, the screenwriter of the original Scream (plus Scream 2 and Scream 4).

It also features the return of other franchise veterans, such as Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers. Plus, Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown as Chad and Mindy Meeks-Martin will return.

The shift in focus follows a tumultuous period for the production. Christopher Landon was initially set to direct Scream 7 as a continuation of Scream VI. However, the removal of Barrera from the project in November 2023, followed by the subsequent exits of Ortega and Landon himself, led to the creative reboot. Campbell’s return as Sidney is particularly noteworthy, as she had declined to star in Scream VI due to a salary dispute.

The film’s script is written by Guy Busick (co-writer of Scream 5 and Scream VI). Fans can also expect to see the return of David Arquette, Matthew Lillard, and Scott Foleyโ€”despite their characters having died in previous instalmentsโ€”though the details of their comebacks are currently a mystery.

Scream 7 is set to hit cinemas on 27th February, 2026.
