Michael Bay Defends Transformers: The Last Knight Nazi Arc

Alfred Hitchcock would be smilingMichael Bay states as he reacts to the backlash to the next Transformers movie Transformers: The Last Knight Nazi story arc.

Over the weekend a few more shreds of information on Transformers 5 movie  found it’s way onto social media with Winston Churchill‘s former home Blenheim Palace draped in Nazi flags.  It seems The Last is a genre busting film, not just with dinosaurs, King Arthur but now Nazis in what seems to be a story that involves the robots in World War 2.

Blenheim Palace apparently will be Nazi headquarters which has enraged not just Historians but also Veterans who have called it very insensitive. Many people may not always agreed with Winston Churchill politically however he was one of the prominent figures in the Allies win over the Nazis during World War 2. Michael Bay himself has urged the detractors to wait until they see the film next summer before they make judgement.

When you see the movie, you’ll understand. I, probably more than any director in the world, have shot more veterans and more active military men and women in my movies. I would do nothing to disrespect veterans.”

Bay also said..“I just want to say, people were not fortunate enough to read the script, and they don’t know that Churchill in this movie is a big hero. And Churchill would be smiling about Last Knight. They haven’t seen the movie, they don’t know the ending, and they don’t know how Churchill is a hero in this movie. So, as the staff said, ‘He’d be smiling right now.’”

Love or hate the man or Franchise the film is still a big cash cow for Paramount but not to offend anyone. You could say maybe if some sort of warning or part of the story maybe conveyed with those possibly offended to what his plans are. Understanding the reasons might have elevated some of the controversy but I’m sure the current owners of Blenheim Palace would have asked for some clarification before agreeing.

It doesn’t seem to matter what Michael Bay does or doesn’t do, many won’t understand or want to understand Bay’s reasons. Even of there was clarification Transformers: The Last Knight for what is and who it’s directed by it will always be criticised. Many major media outlets did ask  Paramount Pictures for a comment but refused to comment.

Transformers:The Last Knight is set for a June 2017 UK cinema release with Mark Whalberg as lead role once again.
