Meet The Heroes & Villains Of Masters of the Universe

Amazon MGM Studios has just dropped a TV spot showcasing the villains featured in Masters of the Universe, the upcoming sword-and-sorcery Mattel toy film adaptation by director Travis Knight and writers Chris Butler, David Callaham, and Aaron and Adam Nee.

Masters of the Universe focuses on Prince Adam discovering his roots in Eternia after having to be evacuated once Skeletor began an evil reign. Adam must unlock his true identity as He-Man, the universe’s most powerful being, and work with new allies, Teela and Man-At-Arms, to save his home.

The new featurette offers a close-up look at villains Skeletor, Evil-Lyn, Trap Jaw, Karg, Goat Man and Tri-Klops, with stars Jared Leto, Alison Brie, Sam C. Wilson, Hafthor Bjornsson, and Kojo Attah appearing in the film as the forces of evil.

There is also an additional featurette that provides a brief history of the Eternia setting and the backstory of the protagonist, Prince Adam. We also gain insight into his bond with Teela and other characters in the film. Director Knight also shares his goal of creating a world which would appease the lifelong fans.

Nicholas Galitzine takes the leading role, with Camila Mendes, James Purefoy, Morena Baccarin, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, Kristen Wiig and Idris Elba also appearing.

The original Masters of the Universe franchise debuted in 1982, combining medieval imagery with science fiction and sword-and-sorcery. The first film version came in 1985 with the animated film The Secret of the Sword, directed by Ed Friedman, Lou Kachivas, Marsh Lamore, Bill Reed, and Gwen Wetzler, followed by the first live-action adaptation in 1987, directed by Gary Goddard and starring Dolph Lundgren.

Masters of the Universe hits cinemas on June 3rd.
