Matt Damon Open To Jason Bourne Return
Could the deadly assassin return for a fifth time?
Jason Bourne himself, Matt Damon, recently said that he would be open to bringing back the Bourne franchise.
In a new interview with Parade magazine, Damon said: “We’re always looking to try to get another one of those because we loved it, everyone who worked on them.”
He added, “So there’s always some attempt going on to write, to come up with a new story. So if you have anything, let us know.”
The franchise started all the way back in 2002 with the Doug Liman-directed The Bourne Identity. Following suit just two years later in 2004 would be The Bourne Supremacy, but this time directed by Paul Greengrass. He would go on to direct two more instalments in the form of 2007’s The Bourne Ultimatum and 2016’s Jason Bourne.
In between those two films, Tony Gilroy directed the fourth entry, The Bourne Legacy. Over its five films, the franchise has grossed more than $1.64 billion at the box office. It’s been 10 years since Bourne last saw action.
The franchise primarily follows the character Jason Bourne, who is rescued at sea with little memory, only to realise he has the combat and thinking skills of a world-class spy. The rest of the franchise follows the agent as he navigates through geopolitical espionage and paranoia.
Whilst Damon hasn’t taken on the Bourne character in a decade, he has been a part of Christopher Nolan’s best picture-winning Oppenheimer and will also star as Odysseus in Nolan’s next film, The Odyssey, which hits cinemas next month, on July 17th. He is also rumoured to star in the next film from the Daniels, following on from the success of Everything Everywhere All at Once.
